Our Commitment To Privacy

Your privacy is important to Casio America, Inc. (collectively, “Casio”, “our”, “we”, or “us”). We provide this privacy policy (“Policy”) to help you understand what information we collect and how it is used. This Policy explains our information practices and the choices you can make about the way your information is collected and used. This Policy covers Casio’s consumer-facing operations in the United States and applies to personal information Casio collects in various contexts including when you visit Casio’s website, engage with Casio via social media, or participate in Casio’s programs or events. Casio may provide additional or different notices in connection with specific programs or offerings.

“Personal information” is any information that identifies or reasonably could be linked to a particular person or household. It includes things like email addresses, phone numbers, mailing addresses, payment card information, account numbers, and government-issued identification numbers. These are just examples and there are many other types of information that would be considered personal information.

If you are a California resident, please see the “California Residents’ Rights” section below for more information about additional rights you may have. If you are a job applicant or an employee who lives in California, Casio provides a separate notice to you regarding your rights with respect to your personal information collected and used in connection with your employment or potential employment with Casio.

1. Information Casio Collects and Purpose for Collection.

a. Information You Provide.
We collect personal information directly from you when you provide it to us (for example, from forms you complete or information you submit when you purchase products or services, or when you call Customer Service for assistance with a product). This information is collected for a number of purposes, as described in more detail below.
Required Information. We or our service providers may request specific information about you in order to register your Casio product, create an account, process your orders, fulfill your requests for information such as when you download products, provide customer service, communicate with you about past orders, or enter you in a contest or promotion (with your consent). The types of personal information collected for these purposes may include: name; mailing address; email address; telephone number; credit or debit card information; and demographic Information (such as age group or earning bracket).

  • Registering for an Account. During the checkout process and on various pages on our site, you are able to create an account with us (CASIO ID). Creating a CASIO ID account allows you to track your purchases and receive a more personalized shopping experience. When you register an account via our website, you are registering with Casio America’s parent company, Casio Computer Co. Ltd., and, in addition to this Policy, the CASIO ID privacy notice will also apply.
  • Product Registration. In addition to your name contact information, we collect product information from you if you choose to register your product with us for purposes of warranty or customer service communications. Information you submit in connection with product registration will not be used to provide promotional or marketing information unless you opt in to these types of communications on the registration form.
  • Orders. When you place an order through our website, you provide information required to complete your transaction. We share this information with service providers and third parties as reasonably necessary to fulfill an order; we may also disclose your email address, mailing address, or telephone number to a service provider for purposes of measuring the effectiveness of our online advertising. We use the information you provide about someone else when placing an order only to ship the product and to confirm delivery.
  • Product Reviews. When you submit a product review, we collect any information you provide in connection with the review.

 

Optional Information Provided Voluntarily. We also collect additional information that you voluntarily provide to us. For example, when you register a product, we request (but do not require) certain demographic information including gender and age group. We may also invite you to participate in voluntary surveys. We collect and analyze information voluntarily supplied via products registrations and surveys to evaluate and improve our products and our services, to evaluate and develop marketing materials, campaigns and strategies, and for any additional purposes indicated in the specific survey or other request for information.

b. Automatic Collection of Information.
Like many websites, Casio’s website uses certain technologies – cookies, web beacons, clear GIFs, tracking pixels, and similar technologies (collectively, “tracking technologies”) – to collect information when you interact with our website and email communications. These types of technologies are used to remember user preferences, maintain the security of our website and your account, measure website analytics, measure the effectiveness of our advertising and promotional communications, and gain information for marketing and advertising purposes, including by identifying the website from which a person was referred to Casio’s site and to track other websites visited by an individual.

“Do Not Track” is a privacy setting that you may set in your web browser. If turned on, this setting requests that websites not track information about users. At this time, Casio does not respond to “Do Not Track” browser settings or signals.

c. Information from Third Parties.
Social Media. We may receive certain information about you from social media platforms, such as through your use of a social network to register an account. If you interact with us on social media or use features, such as plugins, widgets, or other tools made available by social media platforms or networks (including Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest) in connection with our website, we collect information that you share with us or that the social media platforms share with us. Third-Party Tracking Technologies. We also permit third parties to use tracking technologies on our website to help us evaluate website and behavioral analytics, to help manage and display advertisements, to tailor advertisements to your interests, or to send abandoned shopping cart reminders. Some of these third parties use their technology to provide advertising about products and services tailored to your interests which may appear either on our websites or on other websites. You may also delete cookies placed on your device and block new cookies from being placed by using your internet browser’s privacy and security settings.

2. Use of Personal Information.
Casio uses the personal information it collects or receives for various purposes including the following:

a. Provide Products and Services. Casio uses your personal information to provide its products and services to you, including to: fulfill your orders; process your payments; provide you with order confirmations and order updates; communicate with you regarding your account, purchases, returns, exchanges, and service requests; and provide customer service.

b. Market and Promote Casio Products. Casio uses personal information to market and promote its products and service including for the purpose of: sending marketing, advertising, and promotional communications by email, text message or postal mail; displaying advertisements for products and/or services tailored to your interests on other websites; collecting and displaying customer product reviews; measuring the effectiveness of our advertising and promotion communications; and administering our contests, limited edition events, and other similar promotions.

c. Improve and Personalize Your Experience. Casio uses personal information to: obtain and evaluate analytics data for the purpose of improving our product offerings and services; understand how you interact with our website, advertisements, and communications with you to determine which of our products or services are the most popular and to improve our website and marketing campaigns; save you time when you visit our website by remembering your preferences; personalize your experience with Casio and customize the marketing and advertising that Casio shows you; improve Casio’s understanding of its customers’ needs; and provide personalized recommendations about our products and services.

d. Prevent and Detect Fraud or Other Security Incidents. Casio uses personal information to prevent detect, investigate, or take action regarding possible malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity, including fraudulent transactions, attempts to manipulate or violate our policies and terms, security incidents, and potential harm to the rights, property, or safety of Casio and its customers, employees, or others.

e. Operate Its Business. Casio uses personal information to perform core business functions, including: maintaining records for accounting processes, warranty purposes, loss and fraud prevention; collecting amounts owed to Casio; providing and maintaining the functionality of Casio’s website.

f. Comply with Legal Obligations. Casio may use personal information to the extent needed to comply with its legal or regulatory obligations, to establish or exercise its rights, and to defend against a legal claim.

3. Disclosure of Personal Information.
Casio may disclose your personal information in certain circumstances, as described below.

a. Service Providers. Casio utilizes other companies to perform certain services for it or on its behalf. These service providers may collect or receive your personal information so that they can provide services to Casio, which include:

i. Processing credit or debit card payments;
ii. Shipping, handling, and delivering products you order;
iii. Providing marketing services (such as developing campaigns, sending emails or text messages, delivering advertisements, facilitating customer product reviews);
iv. Hosting or maintaining our website, servers, databases, and/or software platforms;
v. Providing fraud monitoring or detection services;
vi. Conducting surveys;
vii. Analyzing customer data and survey responses;
viii. Providing or facilitating warranty or after-sales service;
ix. Providing customer service; and
x. Providing legal, accounting, or consulting services.

b. Corporate Affiliates. We share personal information with our corporate affiliates, including our parent company, Casio Computer, Ltd.

c. Legal Compliance and Protection. We may disclose personal information in response to warrants, subpoenas, court orders, government investigations, or to comply with applicable laws and regulations. We may also disclose personal information to: establish, exercise, or protect the rights of Casio or its employees, affiliates, agents, and other customers; defend against a legal claim; protect the safety and security of our visitors; detect and protect against fraud; and take action regarding possible illegal activities or violations of our policies.

d. Business Transactions. In the event we enter into a merger, are acquired, enter into bankruptcy, or sell a major part of our assets, your information may be among the assets transferred. To the extent we are able, we will notify (i) the new owner of the restrictions placed on your information, and (ii) you of the sale.

e. Other Instances with Your Consent. Casio may disclose your personal information to other third parties not described above if you consent to such disclosure.

4. Your Choices with Respect to Your Personal Information.

a. Correcting Inaccurate Information. You may correct personal information associated with your CASIO ID account by logging into your account and updating that information.

b. Email Opt-Out. If you do not want to receive marketing or promotional emails from Casio, please click on the “unsubscribe” link at the end of one of our emails. You will be taken to a website where you can opt-out of future marketing emails. Please note that this will not opt you out of receiving transactional emails from us, such as order confirmations or shipment tracking information.

c. Text Opt-Out. You can opt-out of receiving text messages from us at any time by replying to a text with the words “STOP,” “UNSUBSCRIBE,” or “END.”

5. Children’s Privacy.
Our website is not aimed at or intended for children. Casio does not knowingly collect, receive, disclose, sell or share information from children under the age of 16. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information relating to a child under the age of 16, we will delete that information from our records. If you believe we might have any information from or about a child under age 16, please let us know using our contact us form (select privacy request from the “Topic” drop-down menu).

6. Security of Your Personal Information.
Casio has implemented and maintains reasonable physical, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, acquisition, or disclosure, alteration, or destruction. Although we strive to keep your personal information secure, no safeguards can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so you should exercise caution when transferring personal information over the internet. Please advise us immediately of any incident involving any unauthorized access to or disclosure of personal information that is in our custody or control – use our contact us form (select privacy request from the “Topic” drop-down menu).

7. Third-Party Sites.
Casio’s website, emails or other materials may contain links or references to websites that are operated by other entities. Please note that when you visit other websites, you will be subject to the privacy practices and policies of the other site, which may be different from Casio’s practices. Please review the privacy notices for other sites you visit. Casio is not responsible for the content, technology, security, or practices of other websites.

8. Applicable Law.
We recognize that our website may be accessed from anywhere in the world, and that the laws of the jurisdictions in which some users are located may differ substantially from those of the United States. Casio’s operations are in the United States and are not directed to other countries; therefore, Casio does not undertake to comply with the laws of other countries or geographic areas outside the United States. Please do not use Casio’s website or submit any personal information through it if you are not a resident of the United States.

9. Updates to this Privacy Policy.
Casio reserves the right to make changes to this Policy by posting an updated Policy on this website. Changes are effective immediately upon posting or upon a later effective date if one is indicated. You should review this Policy periodically to understand our current practices.

11. California Residents’ Rights.
The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California’s “Shine the Light” law, and the California Online Privacy Protection Act provide consumers who are California residents with specific rights regarding their personal information. If you are a California resident, this section provides you with additional information, describes your rights and explains how to exercise those rights.

Sensitive Personal Information. Some types of personal information are subject to a heightened level of protection under data privacy laws. These types of personal information are called “sensitive personal information” and include social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, precise geolocation data, racial or ethnic origin information, and genetic data. Casio does not collect, receive or process sensitive personal information of customers, potential customers, or website visitors. Casio does collect or receive certain sensitive personal information from job applicants and employees, which is addressed in a separate notice.

b. Disclosure of Personal Information.
Casio’s service providers collect or receive personal information in the course of performing service for or on behalf of Casio as described above. Casio discloses the following categories of personal information to the categories of recipients for a business purpose:

  • Identifiers: We disclose identifier information with our service providers, advertising networks, and social media platforms.
  • California customer records information: We disclose this information with our service providers, advertising networks, and social media platforms.
  • Characteristics of protected classifications: We disclose gender and age information with our service providers.
  • Commercial data: We disclose commercial data with our service providers.
  • Internet or other similar network activity: We disclose internet activity information with our service providers, advertising networks, and social media platforms.
  • Inferences drawn from other personal information: We disclose inference information with our service providers.

We may also disclose these categories of information in connection with a business transaction or for legal compliance and protection, as described in section 3 above.

c. Retention of Personal Information.
Casio retains personal information for as long as the personal information is needed to comply with its legal, accounting, and regulatory obligations, to provide warranty service for products under warranty, and to protect Casio in the event of a legal claim or dispute. Personal information generally will be destroyed, deleted, or anonymized seven years after the year in which it was collected unless a valid request to delete the personal information is received before then (in which case it may be deleted earlier) or Casio has a valid reason to retain the information (for example, if there is an ongoing legal dispute that precludes Casio from deleting the information).

d. Your Rights.
Right to Correct Your Information. If you have a CASIO ID account, you can always correct your account information by logging in and updating your information. You may also submit a request to correct or update your personal information by submitting a request as described below.

Right to Access Information. Subject to certain limits, you may ask us to provide the following information:

(1) The categories of personal information we collected about you;
(2) The categories of sources from which the personal information was collected;
(3) The business or commercial purpose for collecting the personal information;
(4) The categories of third parties to which personal information was disclosed for a business purpose;
(5) The specific pieces of personal information we collected about you;
(6) Whether your personal information was sold or shared (“shared” in this context means sharing for the specific purpose of cross-context behavioral advertising) and, if so, the categories of personal information that was sold or shared, the categories of third parties to which your personal information was sold or shared, and the business purpose for the sale or sharing.

Right to Delete. You have the right to ask us to delete any personal information that we have collected about you, subject to certain limitations as set forth under CCPA. We may deny your deletion request if the information is necessary for us or our service providers to, among other things, provide a good or service you requested, take actions reasonably anticipated in the context of our business relationship with you, perform a contract we have with you, detect and protect against security incidents or illegal activity, comply with a legal obligation, or exercise a right provided for by law.

Right to Nondiscrimination. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights under California law. The CCPA permits us to offer you certain financial incentives that can result in different prices, rates, or quality levels, which are related to your personal information’s value. Participation in a financial incentive program requires your prior opt-in consent, which you may revoke at any time by submitting a request as described below. Information about any financial incentives Casio offers will be provided at the time the incentive is offered.

Right to Opt Out of Sale or Sharing. Casio does not sell your personal information for money; however, our use of third-party tracking technologies on our website may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” under California law. You may choose to delete cookies placed on your device and to block new third-party cookies from being placed by using your internet browser’s privacy and security settings. In addition, you may opt out of our sharing your personal information for targeted advertising purposes by submitting a request through the “Your Privacy Choices” link on our homepage.

If you are a California resident, you may submit a request, to correct, to access, to delete, or to opt out in any of the following ways:

Verifying Your Identity: To protect your privacy and security, we will take reasonable steps to verify your identity before providing your personal information, altering your personal information, or deleting your information. Only you or someone legally authorized to act on your behalf may make a request related to your personal information. For example, if you make a request, we will ask you to confirm your name, email address, or other information we have in our records to verify your identity. 

Requests from Authorized Agents: You may designate an authorized agent to make a request for you. If you designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf, we may require you to verify your identity and provide the authorized agent’s identity and contact information to us. If you want to authorize someone else to make a request on your behalf, please complete this form, have it notarized, and provide it to the person you are authorizing to submit a request on your behalf. They will be asked to provide the form when they submit your request.

f. Response to Requests.
We will confirm receipt of your request within 10 business days of receipt and generally will respond to your request within 45 days of receipt. If we need more time to respond, we will inform you of the reason and we may take up to an additional 45 days to respond. 
You will not have to pay a fee to access your personal information or to exercise any of the other rights. However, we may charge a reasonable fee if your request is repetitive or excessive; alternatively, we may refuse to comply with your request in these circumstances.
